ടോക്യോ: ഫ്ളോപ്പി ഡിസ്ക് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ ഇന്നത്തെ കൗമാരക്കാര്‍ക്ക് തീരെ പരിചയമുണ്ടാകണമെന്നില്ല. യുവാക്കള്‍ക്ക് കേട്ടുകേള്‍വിയെങ്കിലും കാണും. പക്ഷേ, ഈ കാലഹരണപ്പെട്ട ഡേറ്റ സ്റേറാറേജ് സാങ്കിതവിദ്യ അടുത്ത കാലം വരെ പ്രചാരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു രാജ്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു~ ജപ്പാന്‍!

സാങ്കേതിക വിഭാഗം മന്ത്രി താരോ കോനോയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലായിരുന്നു ദൗത്യം. ഫാക്സ് യന്ത്രങ്ങള്‍ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുമെന്നും നേരത്തെ കോനോ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍, ഫാക്സിനുപകരം ഇ~മെയിലുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാന്‍ ജീവനക്കാര്‍ മടിച്ചതോടെ പദ്ധതി സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു. ഫ്ലോപ്പി ഡിസ്ക് ഉപയോഗം നിര്‍ത്താനുള്ള തീരുമാനത്തിന് വന്‍ പ്രതികരണമാണ് ജപ്പാനിലെ സമൂഹ മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ ലഭിക്കുന്നത്.

കാലഘട്ടത്തോട് യോജിക്കാത്ത ഭരണത്തിന്റെ പ്രതീകമാണ് ഫ്ലോപ്പി ഡിസ്കുകള്‍ എന്നാണ് "എക്സ്'ല്‍ ഒരാള്‍ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടത്. മൂന്നര ഇഞ്ച് ഫ്ലോപ്പി ഡിസ്കിന് 1.44 എം.ബി ഡേറ്റ വരെ ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളാന്‍ കഴിയും. 32 ജി.ബി ഡേറ്റ സംഭരിക്കുന്ന മെമ്മറി സ്ററിക്ക് പകര്‍ത്താന്‍ 22,000ത്തിലധികം ഡിസ്കുകള്‍ വേണം. ഡിസ്കുകളുടെ അവസാന നിര്‍മാതാക്കളായ സോണി 2011ല്‍ ഉല്‍പാദനം അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചു.
